Exclamation Weight Loss Problem.

[COLOR="Navy"]

Hey,
I own a 12.2hh pony, who has a problem with keeping on weight in the winter, most hosres and ponies lose there condition, but he is really bad. He goes of hay, hayige, most hard feeds. Hes SO paculiar. The only feeds he likes are: Happy hoof (chaff), competion mix. If he doesnt like it he'll just sive through it and eat the stuff he likes.

I really want to hunt him this season, but i have no chance, if he drops his weight.

I was just wondering if anyone knew a lotion or potion i could but on him, in his feed, or somthing.

Thanks please reply with any ideas

Mia

Re: Weight Loss Problem.

Is the pony old?? Must be very fussy!! Have you tried Pink Powder? Its non-heating and puts condition on. You could also try adding sunflower or corn oil to his feed.

How much grazing is he getting? Have you tried soaking his haylege, see if he likes that? He should be getting enough bulk feed, which is usually a haynet in the morning and at night.

You should contact your vet if the situation gets worse, especially now we're getting into winter. There may be an underlying health issue which could explain why he isn't eating. Have you had the dentist out recently? Is there any possibility his teeth need seeing to?

Re: Weight Loss Problem.

I'd be quite worried if any of mine went off food completely.

Have you tried adding sugarbeet? It may be worth using a probiotic or a feedbalancer such as Blue chip or Topspec so then you don't have a large amount of food for him to eat but you know he is getting it and then bulk the rest of his feed out with a chaff that he likes and both hay and haylage. You could also try Readigrass, I've yet to come across a horse that won't eat that!
