Exclamation opinions on horse chiropracters.

my warmblood x is out on trial due to him being to much for me,the lady had his back checked and the chiropracter has said his pelvis is dropped to one side, and fused,as is his spine partialythis would explain some of his behaviour.Therapy would correct this.not sure how convinced i am

Re: opinions on horse chiropracters.

My personal opinion is that most are con artists.
I have yet to find one that will see a horse and not find a problem.
I cannot believe that every horse has a problem with its back that affects the way it works.
What behaviourial problems are you getting from the horse?
I would be very wary allowing someone to start messing around with him without a definite reason and proof to be honest.
I know of a friend who had a chiropractor out to her horse who was presenting with a sore back and reluctance to move forward. The chiropractor gave all this speel about tilted pelvis etc etc and said he would need a lot of work over a period of x weeks.Never once did she ask to take a look at the saddle she rode in which was the problem all along.
I am very cynical about them although in saying that there are some genuine ones out there.

There are some good ones, but unless you know this person I would be very wary.

Ring your vet and ask for advise, they usually know the good ones who they are prepared to work with.

Re: opinions on horse chiropracters.

I used to compete in showjumping and liveried at a yard that had showjumpers. We used to get the 'back' man(as we used to call him) out every so often and he would normally just pop whatever needed done or realligned there and then and that was it till he came again. Only one horse ever needed a lot of treatment but this horse had a lot of muscle wastage etc so was expected but apart from that it was all fine. We used to get him out 2-3 times a year whether it was needed or not tho - he was never really called in just to help a horse with problems so in that case I'm not sure.

ON another note I am at the moment seeing a chiropractor and have been going twice a week for almost 4 weeks and havent noticed a difference just trying to decide how long to give it before I decide to quit so not totally convinced with chiropractors to be honest

Re: opinions on horse chiropracters.

Hi
Have you tried a registered McTimoney practitioner? Here's a link: :: MCA :: >> Homepage <<
And I agree with Toddy and RTK on this. Be very wary and make sure anyone who treats your horse's back is fully qualified and registered!!
Good luck

had a thoroughbred that had a stifle problem,i managed to save on vet bills to push it back in but the damage was already there that it causes.like us you compensate with the other side of your body when there is a problem,i knew he had a back problem and after research and a reputable source i found gavin schoefield[spelling]he travelled a distance and corrected him and only charged £40 bonus and it seriously did work right from the start when he walked out the stable and i see how he done it and performed it myself and it worked and was also told by him that turn out for as long as poss everyday if not 24-7 stops seizing up and can prevent these problems from arising.
