Hi Kaz,
Absent healing with Reiki can be used when practitioner and patient are not able to be together usually because of distance. It works basically the same as hands on reiki, by connecting to the patients energy and being intent on sending healing energy. Either to a particuiar area or all over the body.

In brief because every thing being either human, animal or nature is made up of energy, distance doe`s not make any difference. One way this can be done is to have a photo of the patient so that you can connect to them to send healing. Like i said this is brief, but hope you get a bit of idea.
