Re: Foot sore

Poor man,

Your doing the right thing getting the farrier out, if he has done a lot of work at the weekend he might have bruised his soles. Will proberly need shoes on. In the mean time If he is stabled i would give him a deep shavings bed to give his feet some support. Or if he is outside turn him out on soft ground. You could cold hose his feet a couple of times a day to relieve any discomfort and reduce any inflamation. I would not work him until he is comfortable again it might take a good few days or even a week depending on how sore he is. I hope he is feeling better soon. Give him plenty of hugs!

Re: Foot sore

Too much work I suspect.

Ground is hard even on grass at the moment owing to lack of rain in most areas.

Ground is in fact like concrete - not any give at all.

Best thing is box rest on soft bedding - such as shavings which will support the sole and mould to shape of foot. (plenty of hay - ad lib if poss as not only wil it take mind off it but will help with not being out)

Poor thing. You are right to worry and get vet. well done.

Re: Foot sore

Hi, I have had many probs over the years with feet, but last year I found Magic Cushion hoof packing on the web, and the results are fantastic! Its not cheap, £80 for a tub, but well worth every penny, and it stays in the foot, even with turnout. My boy has a lot of issues going on, footwise, and this stuff is just brilliant. Type it in your google search, you can buy it from Horsham in Sussex. Other than that, I would keep your boy in on a nice deep bed, and maybe some bute, to ease those feet, good luck
