Update on Red (ruptured tendon) - not good news :'(

Vet had to cancel Thursday & earliest she could do again was today...

She unfortunately confirmed what we were dreading...

The scan showed no signs of improvement (the fibres of suspensory ligaments should be joined up in neat lines, Reds look like a whispy cloudy sky with empty patches all over), she said the tendon is an absolute mess & the area that should be holding it all together & would of helped it heal is completely gone & he should not still be in so much pain after 3 months rest.

As it is unfair & no quality of life to be shut up in the stable any longer, she suggested putting him out, doped up on sedalin, whilst we make our decision... Because she cannot see it ever healing & he is in alot of pain & one more slight slip in the field & the decision will be made for us. :'(

So because it is not as simple as just turning him out to retire peacefully & happily, we are having to deal with our selfish emotions & think what is the best thing for Red, not us!

I hate to see him in pain or miserable in the stable & would hate it even more if he caused himself more pain out in a field for the rest of his days so we kind of know what we have to do but it is soooo hard!

I've been having lots of snotty wet cuddles with him today (& kisses as much as he dislikes them!!!) & he shall be spoilt rotten for the next few days!

I am absolutely dreading when 'that' day comes :'(

Re: Update on Red (ruptured tendon) - not good news :'(

Oh dear, sorry to hear that.

I am suprised that the vet has said there is nothing else that can be done. I have known horses be suspended in frames in their stables for a few months, yes its a long time but they have been able to go back into the field and a couple of years down the line even ridden again.

I would personally try everything you can find and THEN if nothing seems to be helping and he lets you know that he wants to die, only then would I have an animal PTS. Sometimes yes owners keep their animals alive due to their own emotions when its not the best thing for the animal but often it is the other way around and I find this more often than the first.

I can find numbers for you if you PM me your area or you can have a look yourself. I would first recommend at least two seperate animal communicators(if you feel that you definatly know that he wants to go then obviously ignore this) Reiki, or animal energy healers, I offer this for free and there are many healing 'rings' that offer this for free also which is more intense as many healers all working together. If he starts to improve then I would recommend a bowen practitioner, shiatsu I had both of these on my own tendon and the horses that I worked with. Anything like aromotherapy, crystal healing etc I think is worth a try before making a big decision. Zoopharmacognosy is brilliant he will get to pick out his own natural painkillers rather than being given them, I going to be writing a book on this as only a couple of books out there and I feel is very very important aspect of healing that the majority of domesticated animals never get a shot at.

Like I said if you want me to help I would be glad to do, but if you have a very close bond and feel it is right for him to go then dont ignore it
