Soft hooves.... any other suggestions please?

One of my youngsters has quite soft feet - his frog and insole is quite spongy. Ive been treating them with hoof products for the last few weeks, but it doesnt seem to be working in hardening them up a bit. Hes not tender or sore on them and its definately nothing like foot rot - just soft feet!
I know a lot of people use iodine for soft feet - but have you used or heard of anything else that I could try to harden them up a bit?

Hi. Kevin bacon hoof dressing is supposed to be good at 'feeding' the feet. Maybe share your worries with the farrier when they next visit. I'm always asking mine for advise.
Good luck.

Hooves.. Well my only advice is you are what you eat.. I used to feed my girl Biotin.. In her feeds.. I dont think painting stuff onto your horses soles frogs and hoofs will makes much difference.. I also dont think spending 20 mins rubbing cornucresine(sp) in either makes much difference..

Re: Soft hooves.... any other suggestions please?

Ok so I have absolutely no idea if this would work on hooves or not but when I was playing the guitar I used surgical spirit at first to make my fingers harder so that the strings didn't work. Maybe this would work on hooves too but I'd google a bit before just whacking some on. Other than that I'd just suggest some pads on the sole if the horse is shod for some extra protection and waiting for the weather to dry out.

heya,
Sorry for the late reply, you can buy something called 'keratex' its a hoof hardener which you paint on just like hoof oil.

Its really good, i hunted my mare barefoot for a whole season, used keratex everyday and her feet were still in great condition at the end of it.
