Advice on a cut on the hock

Hi everyone!
I am at a bit of a loose end and thought maybe som, eone on here may have some tips!
About 2 weeks ago Star cut herself right on her hock, The cut is not deep or bad for that matter, it is just in the most awkward place!
I have been cleaning it and creaming it but the problem was that everynight in her stable she rips it back open again! I am sure this is due to her laying down as I cannot see any other way of her doing this being on her back leg! So.... I changed her bedding to Straw whilst leaving a bed of shavings underneath for padding, and bandaged it but when I got to the yard this morning she has pulled the bandage off and spread her bed around so she has just done it again!!!
Someone suggested a hock boot but I juts dont thinkit would be comfortable for her at all if she lays down as surely would dig in and also I know for a fact she will just rip it off like the bandage!!
Like I said the cut is not bad but everytime she is ripping it open she is getting dirt it in etc and we are back at the start again!
I just need a way to get it healed so that once it is healed I will not have a problem, My problem now is that it wont heal because everyday it is being ripped open again! Viscious circle or what!!

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

1 of my horses once got a cut on the side of his knee, only small, but like yours, it didn't seem to be healing. I had the vet who gave us creams, etc to try and told us to clean it, he then tried to stitch it, but that didn't work, in the end we left it, it got mud in it, but healed up on it's own!

My advice would be to never ever leave a cut on or near a joint to its own devices. Get the vet. They can get an infection in the joint and you could have a very very serious problem. Probably sorted now of course.

Thanks for the comments, Yes it has totally healed now!!
I found the best way was to leave it, not constantly clean and cream i because it was making it moist and easier to rip open. Once She went a night without it being ripped open it healed perfectly fine by itself!

That is excellent news. Well done. It must have been superficial one which is great news. We often worry and then fuss too much don't we !

Clean it once and let it be seemed to be the way with this one. Glad it got sorted.
