Re: Laminitis Help
Dimby had lammy and he is on safe and sound, it has a minty flavour to it so I put his bute into this at feed times and he used to be okay....... just make sure it is well mixed.
Good luck with the tests ![]() |

Re: Laminitis Help
If the bute you are using is pro-dynam then most horses hate it. If its equipalizone then try sprinkling it in a jam sandwich and not in the feed. Golden syrup and treacle is good too but becareful to limit the amount. I could sadly write a book on Laminitis

Re: Laminitis Help
How old is the pony and how long has he/she been showing signs?
Also and if you havnt seen other horses ponies in varying degrees of laminitis I know it will be difficult to answer but how bad is it? What is she/he able to do in regards to movement or how is it effecting them? And also what feed are they currently on, are they turned out what is the field like? Sorry if so many questions but easier to give advice ![]() |

Re: Laminitis Help
Soaking hay is by far the best way to feed a recovering laminitic but you only need to soak it for a maximum of 2 hours. It will have bulked up enough and all the soluble carbs that can be leached will have gone in 2 hours.....soaking for any longer only sours the hay. Also becareful where you drain it.

Re: Laminitis Help
Hi if you have a regular supply of hay it might be worth checking the ph levels as horses with alot of acid in there diet can be more prone to laminitis also check out the hydropaths info and availabe at Institute of Applied Equine Podiatry and Home of Energetics Brand Perfect Hoof Wear - Barefoot Trimming, Natural Hoof Care
