Help buying a hat

Hi all
After my sucessful first lesson, Ive decided to look into getting my own hat, Ive been looking online, the prices vary lots, I dont even know what size my head is yet, and I really dont know where to start.
The one I wore today was like a solid cup, it fitted ok, had an M in it at 54/56 but other than that HELP!

I was wondering if anyone knows anywhere that is in my area and not too expensive, or even of a good site online, right now I want as good as I can get as cheaply as poss without skimping on the quality, so that if I decide I want a better one later I can.
Also do stables have their own shops?
Im in the ME6 area

Thanks

Re: Help buying a hat

You definately need to try hats on because the different makes are all different sizes!!! What I do is go to a local tack shop and try loads on, find a make that you like and fits well and then go online and shop around!! There isn't one site that is cheap for hats it's a case of goggling and doing price comparisions. Don't skim on a hat, definately definately don't buy 2nd hand...it's just not worth it, your head is way more important than saving a few quid. Personally I like Harry Hall hats I find them very comfortable and good value, just got a Charles Owen skull cap for XC and its comfy but gives me a very sweaty head!!!

Re: Help buying a hat

To be honest, this is safety equipment. It is there to protect you, so i wouldnt skimp on cost, pay for something with great quality that you know will fit you perfectly and is a good make. There are hats out there branded as 'excellent' when actually they are not great fitting hats in the slightest.

Always go to a tackshop to have the hat fitted by a trained fitter, not just the saturday girl and never fit them on your own.
