rubber matting

I have recently put Caddy on Rubber Matting and I love it! saves time and money on using less straw but I also love the thought that he isn't on cold concrete any more..... I used to have his bed really thick and now he still has his full banks and a straw bed down but no where near as much..... any one else a fan of rubber matting? Dims is on shavings and as he is tiny he is very easy to muck out but he will be going on rubber matting next winter

Re: rubber matting

Yep I have matting and wouldn't not have it any stable since. It definately protects them from scrapes off the concrete, a friends horse used to always scratch his hocks where he moved the bedding whilst lying down no matter how thick his bedding is.
Having said that my mare is still sooo bloody messy I've tried allsorts of bedding with big beds and minimal bedding and she still stinks, she is really wet. So I have now gone back to straw with a bed to the door but not as thick as it would be on concrete and that seems to be working.

Re: rubber matting

Mine isn't stable kept but he comes in for a few hours in the day so he can have some hay (he has haylage intolerance so cannot be in the field when the others are given theirs) and I use rubber matting so I don't have to spend out on shavings. I put a sprinkling of NedzBeds over the matting and then it's nice and easy to clean. Must admit I do have to take them out once a week and clean under cos he does like to pee the moment he's bought in....

Re: rubber matting

I am lucky I have good drainage so it just flows along really well, but I lift mine up every 2 weeks to give a good disinfectant..... just remembering which bit goes where is the nightmare lol
