daily mail article

hi

i may be talking out of place, but it was very upsetting to find that none of the rescue centres are taking horses,is there a scheme similar to dog charities . Mawhere a person can sponsor a horse. to help horse charities. Maybe if the
Daily Mail are showing sympathy, maybe if we strike as the iron is hot. we can get the Daily Mail to run an advert f.o.c re sponsoring
Because horses need a voice just as other animals do.

Re: daily mail article

Are you refering to this article? Slaughter of the horses: More animals will be shot as recession bites | Mail Online

It is only one centre, and to be painfully blunt and honest there are worse things than being shot. I personally think this is scaremongering again, Horse and Hound have said several times that people part with their horses last, and as we are all hurting during this financial crisis.

You could try helping a sanctuary near you? Or emailing the Daily Mail?

Re: daily mail article

its just one center as far as im aware, Most rescue centers are snowed under with animals

Try volountering at a local rescue center, the more volounteers the more they can do

Re: daily mail article

I'd rather see my horse shot than the alternative of live transportation or being shoved around the auctions. Why is it the rescues that get the blame for people's lack of preparation? I own a horse and before buying him I made damn sure I could afford him even if I lost my job or home. Alright I might be lucky that I have friends with land who will rent it to me cheaply if I had to remove him from livery, but I have also ensured that if I die suddenly he is taken care of by a legacy with a well known horse charity. This means on my death they will either rehome him or retire him to one of their centers to live out his life, all it takes is a few words in my will and a donation. Took me 10 minutes to do and I know he's safe forever. Our horses are OUR responsiblity not the rescues.

Re: daily mail article

I agree a lot of it is scaremongering and the fact that many rescues have relied on public funding for so long and with people not donating as much are now struggling.
To me if you cannot fund a rescue yourself then don't start one in the first place.
A local rescue to me is always begging for donations but will not rehome any of their horses despoite many being suitable to be used by knowledgable people.
Makes me so cross
