Re: Pony is bigger than thought???? opinions please!

Passports are a waste of time.
Most do not even correspond to the animal they were issued for.
Considering you can go to a market or sale and buy a horse and have a passport made up while you wait it rather makes a mockery of the whole thing.
The horse does not need to be measured or even vetted when having apassport made out so it is possible anything could be put on it.
It is also possible that the pony was younger when the passport was made out and that she has grown since.
Just another way of getting us horse people to p art with hard earned cash

Yes I think it's 4 inches to an hand if I remember correctly so that makes her 14.3 I would say.

I agree passports are a complete waste of time, I bought a pony in a market in a soft moment who was supposed to be three, when I had my dentist to see to his teeth he wasnt even 2 yet he had been ridden round the ring by a child who was far too heavy, I turned him out for 2 years and he still remembers his harsh treatment, we are taking little baby steps in his training but he is improving. Does your ponys size make a difference to what you wanted to do with him?

Re: Pony is bigger than thought???? opinions please!

When horse passports first came out it was down to the owners to do them, that is the markings the height the lot! unfortunately a lot of owners got it wrong. As you have seen with the height bit. I would call the passport people and get some advice. I had Caddys passport done by my vet which was easy enough as Caddy has registration papers with the welsh society also his passport is with the welsh society, but I wanted to make sure it was filled in correctly. Dimby was a baby when he came to us so his passport with the miniature shetland society was already done but I still had the vet check it out. Every time your horse gets his yearly vaccinations your vet should stamp his passport. Another thing worth thinking about if your horse was stolen and you was laying claim to your horse when you found him, your passport would be used as identification if your horse is not micro-chipped or freeze marked. For me personally I would get this adjusted on his passport
