Weird Behaviour!?!

The yearling filly I look after has started doing something strange... she comes up and licks me then pauses and opens her mouth really wide, (like a yawn) licks again the 'yawns' then licks and so on. she will keep on doing it til i walk off.

just wondered if this meant anything or if shes just being strange!! she is a funny little horse!!

Re: Weird Behaviour!?!

She is showing you she is a baby, she doesn't know how to react so she is testing showing her baby teeth, they also gum or mouth, opening and shutting their mouths, just reassure her and she will stop

Re: Weird Behaviour!?!

she used to do what i called 'chomping' when she was a bit smaller. shes the same size as me now though so shes stopped doing it although she does it to my friends partner who is about 6ft. i didnt realise the yawning thing was all part of it. thanks for getting back to me. x
