Horse riding

would love to take this up again, i broke my back and have had it pinned, the docs haven't said i can't, but would love to get back into the saddle again so to speak.

someone has recommended western style riding to me as the seating is slightly more relaxed than regula stlye can any one offer me any advice on this?

Re: Horse riding

How many doctors have told you you cant ride again? i had a bad back injury when i was 16 (not as serious as a break but pretty bad) and i was initially told by my specialist that horse riding was a no no. then at the age of 18 i saw another specialist who said that there was no reason why i couldnt go riding again as long as i wore protective gear and was careful.
im 24 now and up until recently was riding regularly... (only stopped riding cos the horse i had on loan went back to her owner but im getting another horse in Jan). i started off gently and was having no trouble at all. cant handle hacking out for long periods any more like i used to but apart from that i was fine.

i would maybe see another specialist and get another opinion. obviously my back injury is not as serious as yours so i dont know if you would be ok to ride. i would go by the doctor's advice! but see another doctor as they often say different things!! good luck!

Re: Horse riding

I think visiting the disabled riding school is an excellent idea!! You could offer to help out in exchange for a couple of lessons? I'd certainly be getting a second opinion but obviously you are going to have to be extra careful. I know 2 ladies who have had broken backs and both do ride but they take it easy and have very chilled out horses. I totally understand your urge to ride, I know I'd be distraught if I couldn't get back in the saddle. Good luck keep us informed.
