Re: IS leasing a good idea?

Loaning/leasing can be a very good way of getting to look after a horse as if it is your own without the initial outlay of money but be very careful who you loan off and make sure you have a written agreement about everything.
There is nothing worse than loaning a horse which you have been told is a long term loan for you to bond and work hard with only to have them snatched from underneath you by the owner.
Loaning does have its pitfalls both on an owner and loaner point of view but with a written contract at least you know where you stand on both sides.

AGREED!! and also if you plan to buy the horse in the future, agree a price with the owner beforehand and have this written into the contract, with a clause that you have first refusal to buy

Re: IS leasing a good idea?

theres lots i could say about loaning but one thing really bothers me is some people see it as a solution to calm a naughty horse a horse they cant control or bring on then you do all the work and they want it back just be careful and have a contract and insist that you write it out together as your needs and concerns are just as important as the owners
