I will be taking a mare and foal to Bramham horse trial on Thursday. We are entering in two classes and I am unsure what I should wear.

When we have gone to the british warmblood show we have to wear white to show off the horse. But as this class will be more like a sports horse class I would like any suggestions?

I was thinking maybe tweed jackets, but then would be need to wear a hat?

The two classes we have entered are:

'Mare with the potential to produce and eventer'
'Foal that is bred to event'

Any suggestions would be very helpful

Sorry I know nothing about showing (took friends mare in local show last sunday in black joddys and grey t shirt!! ...oh yes and my JRT who escaped from his lead and ran into the ring!!) so I'll not try and give you any advise!!!
But good luck anyway!!

I would say yes wear a tweed jacket smart trousers or cream jodpurs and jodphur boots if you have them.

Oh and a shirt and tie underneath. Its not just the mare and foal on show so are you too.


I used to work with show ponies and before that in a riding school working with hunters. I was taught you should always wear a hard hat even if leading a horse in hand. There is always a chance it could rear and hit you on the head with its hoof especially when leading a young playfull foal.

Well we made it. We decided to wear black trousers, tweed jackets, shirt, tie and hard hat. We fitted in very well and came 9th out of 18 so not bad for the 1st attempt!! The judge was Ian Stark so even managed to meet someone famous.
