Carrots

What is the correct way to feed a horse carrots please?

my son goes with my wee brother and sister to feed the shetlands my dads gf looks after, and feed carrots.

Now he is obsessed with carrots! Can't go by them with out him going ''mummy can I have carrots for the horses please?''

So I have asked the lady who owns the horse near us and she says it is ok to feed him carrots, but I forgot to ask what way to feed them.. Cut up, or what??

I'd ask her but she isn't near.. I just managed to catch her leaving him the other day and asked before she got into her landrover..

you may find this interesting:

Also, a lot of people don't feed too many carrots in one go as they are high in sugar and too many can be bad for the horse (plus probably make it a touch hyper!)

Re: Carrots

Thanks
That's the way I imagined would be ok to feed them.
Well maybe will buy some little carrots and cut one into fingers every now and again then

Re: Carrots

I was always taught, if you put it in a feed then cut the vertically but on a angle.
If you feed it from the hand then you just hold the carrot and let it bite a chunk off till your down to the last bit.
Um with younger children biting off maybe dangerous im not sure if cutting it in to chunks is a good idea, maybe try the vertical angle.
If you see the lady again ask what she thinks
