horse mistreatment

hi

I haven't used this site before but as a horse owner i would welcome any suggestions about how to deal with this situation. To cut a long story short i am highly experienced horsey person with over 50 yrs around horses and i am against all forms of behaviour that cause distress to any person or animal. unfortunately i find myself in a situation that breaks my heart because i believe that a person or persons are hitting my horse where I have her at a DIY yard but i have no proof apart from my horse telling me. I suspect who is causing her harm but confrontation brings no results and i am seeking to move the horse to a safer yard. However i feel passionate that such action should be highlighted and those responsible encouraged to alter their ways. How would you deal with such a situation, whatever animal was affected? Regards and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: horse mistreatment

First I think you would need real proof that your thoughts are correct, then speak to the person concerned and ask why, or go straight to the YO/manager. If no luck there then move yards asap.

What Bea said. Also if the yard is BHS accredited report them. I would be utterly furious if I found anyone hitting my horse, I hope you get to the bottom of this soon.

Re: horse mistreatment

I had this situation years ago with our mare ,suspected it was happening but not around to see it happen.

It was a 14yr old girl with a foul mouth and attitude ,who didnt respect anyone who had the job of turning the horses out before school .

I eventually found out what was going on when her mother reported back to me that our mare had booted her ,and when i challenged this ,as this was not in her nature iI was told it was because the girl had given her "a dig " as she was too slow going out.
Had already made up my mind to leave ,but advised them that she was not to touch my mare and if I found out that she had ,would report it .
Left that yard and our mare never lifted her feet to anyone till the day she died.

Re: horse mistreatment

This happended to Caddy when I had first bought him ( many years ago), he is a gentle giant. Luckily one of the girls on the yard saw another girl hit Caddy with a headcollar and screaming at him because he was following her in the field. I went to the owner of the yard and he didn't want me to leave but niether did he tell the teenager to go. I didn't want to leave Caddy in that envioroment so I moved him. The teenager was given a warning by the owner. I should have reported it, but the girl that told me said that she didn't want trouble
