Mud - suggestions?

I was inspired by another post, I hate mud too

We have had some success by moving gate entrances ( string type ) and scooping out the worst areas and filling with hardcore/gravel and laying a mat over it

Anyone got any other tips to avoid the stuff ?

Re: Mud - suggestions?

My gate entrance has about a caouple of foot hardcore under it and it has grass on top now so the drainage in that area is brilliant! They stand there a lot ( like most horses waiting to come in or feeding)
but it has held up really well..... this has been for many years now

Ah sandy spoil, nice!

tonette, thats great the grass has grown back over, we should do that, its a nightmare trying to move barrows over it and I have left my welly behind more than once..

Did you get a contractor to do it or borrow some machinery?

We have an arrangement with a local gardener who tips his wood chippings onto our main hack path, you need lots, its raised the level and keeps it much softer and drier than the other areas. Its also less dusty in dry summers.
We also have fir trees next to it which suck out alot of moisture.

I bet builders would love to give away hardcore so they dont have to bury or pay to tip it

Sounds like you've done all you can - the only other suggestion would be to emigrate to a warmer climate! lol
