***warning***

For anyone who's horse wears a Rhinegold Harlequine full neck turnout rug! The particular one I have comes with elasticated leg straps, I mean VERY elasticated, which intially I thought was a nice idea as the straps wouldn't become tight & rub, but in yesterdays high winds I found that this feature is actually potentially very dangerous. As I was checking & feeding the horses yesterday morning, a strong gust of wind from behind lifted the rug clean off my horse's back, & due to the super stretchy leg straps it actually moved forward so far that the neck cover completely covered his head, just the end of his nose was poking out!! So lucky that I was there at the time & that my dear old boy is pretty unflappable, but even he was pretty distressed & it took me a while to catch him & sort it out. On a young or spooky horse out at grass with no-one there this could have been fatal. I have contacted the manufacturers & frankly they really didn't seem bothered! I have replaced the elasticated straps with some non-stretchy webbing ones, if any of you have a rug like this I suggest you do too!

Re: ***warning***

Bloody hell thats not good at all.
I am glad your horse is ok but like you say this could of been fatal.

I tend to stick with Weatherbeeta rugs for my horses as they fit nicely.

Cant stand any rhinegold rug they are cheap, not waterproof and rub horrifically friend had some on some youngsters as grow out rugs, lost three manes over winter. Sorry.

None of my rugs have leg straps either had too many get caught on fencing. I just have fillet strings even on HW TO'

Scary for you and pleased he is ok.

I now remove all leg straps and put on a fillet string, much safer
