Jump Cross!!!!!

Okay so it was a MAJOR disaster and I totally blame myself but yesterday I attempted my first jump cross event!!! Didn't help it was pouring down and blowing a glade so didn't even get time to warm up properly let alone do a practice jump!!! Set of doing pairs and because I hadn't seen the course properly didn't realise the jumps were not the 2ft 6 they were advertised at but MUCH bigger!! Cleared the first 2 no problem and the 3rd was a huge oxer downhill!!!! Kane was completely okay and going well but I panicked and checked him too harshly so he slowed right down, I'm so stupid if I'd have left him alone we'd have been fine but he leapt over the jump (clearing it by a mile apparently....good boy!!) and I landed on his neck..then off his neck...then on the floor in a heap!!! Managed to pick myself up and although we were eliminated they allowed us to continue so I could sort myself out!!! I didn't attempt any other jumps because they were all way too big for me but after clearing a huge ditch (don't mind ditches and Kane's brave as they come with natural jumps!) I decided to attempt another straight...bad move cos I think he was still scared from the last fall and again he flew over it so I fell off again! How embarrassing is that!!?? Luckily I'm fine and body protector did it's job (ache like a bugger but otherwise nothing broken!!). I did get back on and we gallopped home but it was a disaster and I really wish I'd been sensible and not entered cos it was way too advanced for me!!!

Think Kane enjoyed himself anyway and he behaved perfectly so I'm as always hugely proud of him and love him even more!!!

Re: Jump Cross!!!!!

Hi.... I must firstly say a big Well Done for making the effort in the first place by jumping the higher jumps..... I have had my 15.2hh tb x pacer for almost 4 years now and I took him showjumping last month.... The Wobblies, they are called, obviously for the older person and at 55cm.... that was high enough for me at my very first show ever...... I knew he could do it.... I know he can clear 1m 10cm no probs but not with me on.... I got round clear and went on to win the jump off also..... I was so proud not only of myself but of my wee boy taking care of me.... I would like to have the courage to do jump cross... Ingleston at Bishopton is not too far away and have just opened their jumpcross course.... maybe oneday ????? Good luck and keep up the jumping if you are enjoying it..... Pamx

Re: Jump Cross!!!!!

This sound like me on several occassions! The best thing to do it stay calm and only do what your comfortable doing, being rushed at a competeion is nothing worse.

Maybe stick to the smaller courses and if you feel the jumps are inappropriately measured then you can complain. :-) xxxx
