Mare might be pregnant

I am having the vet come out, but March 26th and probably several days before my mare was with a colt, she is 19 years old and I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and I've been told that it's hard for an older mare to get pregnant, I'm pretty sure she has foaled before, but many years ago. The vet says she is healthy enough to have a baby and I shouldn't worry about her age. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else. I guess in a week if she is pregnant, the vet will be able to tell.

Yes its perfectly possible for a 19 year old mare to concieve, my mare is in foal now and she is 17, 18 later this year. If your vet says she is healthy enough to carry the foal full term then you have no need to worry

Thank you, that makes me feel better. Was it hard for your mare to conceive, do you breed her on a regular basis? I'm just wondering what the likely hood is that she conceived while they were together. I was stupid and needed someone to keep her company and being naive didn't think he could breed yet, wrong! They are not together anymore.

Yes shes a brood mare, this will be her 4th foal. No we had no problems with her conceiving, the went to the stud for a week and shes only got a month before her due date

She should be just fine, but if she is make sure you swat up on everything and have someone present at the birth who knows what they are doing. I have British Riding Ponies and Welsh Ponies, and on the occasion I have had to interveen, but I have done it all before but its best if someone is there who can help if needs be

Thank you. I will make sure I have someone there that knows what they are doing. If she is at least I'll know pretty much from the beginning so I have 11 months to prepare and learn as much as I can.
