Consultants over worked or just do not bother?

Went to see my consultant on tues and whilst i wait for my referral to Guys he decided to put me on another drug to take with the others to try and ease some of the pain.

I have been on morphine and diazapam for a good while now and I asked him if it was ok to take the new ones with everything else. He said yes.

Anyway the hospital pharmacy was so busy i decided to take it to my docs pharmacy instead.

Picked them up today and for the first week have to take 1 at night. Then they increase up each week.

Anyhow I just took one, and took the normal morphine, diazapan and anti inflammatory and always prop in bed until i can feel them working having a look through threads on here.

I thought I would look up the new drug on the net and have just read ...DO NOT TAKE WITH MORPHINE DRUGS!!!

OMG I already have. Surely my consultant should have known what I was on before prescibing these or definatly looked it up.

Has it got to the stage where they are doing so many hours that mistakes are happening through tiredness or are they becoming so complacent.

I am now worried about falling aslep!!

My sister has a bone condition and has found alot of warnings with mixing drugs are said to save dr.s bums but will cause no harm...can't say for your case as i am not a doctor, the only thing i can suggest is contact your doctor and discuss it.

No, i don't think they bother to check your notes, my new GP asked me about my type of arthritis didn't bother to look it up.
I spent a night in hospital a few weeks ago, and i got told by this young doctor to make sure my notes were up to date, i was diagnosed with a leaky heart valve in 2000 he said it wasn't there ,but the same day the GP was reading it on her pc screen, he just didn't bother to look that far back.
Your doctor should have checked your notes!

Well Nhs people are meant to be phoning back!! if i can stay awake that long!!
Yes you read so many horror storeies of docs not reading notes or instructions correctly.

for 1 person to be reading it and then on same day someone not finding it just shows how complacent some can be

The annoying thing was he was having a go at me ! make sure YOU tell your GP ! cheeky so & so

I lost the sight in my right eye because of mis-diagnosis,(sent me away 3 times said nothing was wrong, i had a detached retina !) so i don't have much faith in the NHS. I always seem to get the useless ones!

Re: Consultants over worked or just do not bother?

Hey, don't worry! Your GP knows he/she is doing!

I am on a couple different tablets that ''shouldn't'' be taken together but they are fine. It really depends on individual cases and symptoms. (bear in mind not all internet typing is true)

Your GP knows what you can and can't take.

Re: Consultants over worked or just do not bother?

I hope NHS direct rung back. They did when I had gastric flu and tonsilitis last year and they were really good

I think it's a mix of both. My OH's doctor completely 'forgot' that he is anaemic
