Question Smear test

I've been told by my doctor that i'mto have a smear test soon...

What can i expect?
Is it painful?
Is it as embarrasing as i imagine it will be?

Re: Smear test

dont worry about it at all. its not a big deal and is over in less than a minute!

its not sore, but it might feel a bit strange. the nurse inserts a thing that i cant remember what its called into you, and then takes a quick swab. thats all. done and dusted.

and dont be embarrassed, the nurse has seen everything before in every possible way!

Re: Smear test

Smear test aren't embarrassing - just a bit wierd! The main thing is to relax, which can be very hard! If the speculum is metal then it can be very cold...the plastic ones are obviously less so.

Re: Smear test

I find them uncomfortable rather than painful but again, relaxing is key. Try not to clench as then it does make it painful. It's embarrassing and feels really weird but if you go in with the thought that it will be all over with in under 5 minutes, then you'll get through it ok. I've had them since I was 14.

Re: Smear test

I got my letter last Saturday to go for one. I don't mind the test, it's waiting for the results that scares me.

My last three have been 'inconclusive' - I should have gone for another one 3 months ago but whenever I think about booking it it's time for my period so I forget again

Oh god please try to get one booked ASAP, don't want to cause alarm but this sounds very like a very high profile case not so long ago (Jade), don't leave anything to chance!

I've had a couple of years of abnormals but all is ok now, think they might even leave me a whole year before checking again, I am sure you will be fine but its really not worth the risk however small x
