My old Bracken was capable of giving the most scornful of looks if a gun missed an easy bird It used to make me smile 'cos I knew what he was thinking.

On the other hand, it makes for a much steadier dog if you are a lousy shot like me. My dogs are genuinely surprised when I actually hit something and they get a retrieve. Some of my friends who are crack shots have dogs which are off as soon as the barrel goes up because they know that there will definitely be a retrieve. It is good to miss a few occasionally.
