My cat Doris was purchased out of a pet shop because I felt sorry for her she cost us £15 & same again covered in fleas which they knew about as they tried to sell us some cr@ppy spray which doesn't work - Got home & she was frontlined straight away!

Re: kittens in pets shop

Absolutely disgusting

The only reason pet shops sell kittens is because it's a lucrative business and they know it will draw people into the shop to buy even if it is for the worst reason - impulse buying and nagging kids. And what do they care if the poor kitten ends up as a temporary play thing, then booted out when no longer the cute kitten, they go off to the pet shop to buy another eek: as it's more trade for them.

I would love to know which low life breeders these shops are getting them from.

Re: kittens in pets shop

I actually thought it was against the law to sell dogs and cats in pet shops in England... obviously I was wrong!

I remember when I moved over to Spain, I went into a petshop and they had puppies and kittens... I was gobsmacked. I'd never been in a petshop before that sold kittens and pups. My boyfriend laughed at me and said yeah... it's normal lol.

They looked so sad, they were kept in dirty cages/tanks. They had all poo stuck to their backsides... some were vicious and beating up the other pups... it was horrible to see

They weren't moving around alot... all had sticky eyes etc etc... and were all panting badly cause they were boliing hot. I hated seeing it

Amongst the many I saw there were, British Bull Dogs, Shar Peis, Poodles, English Bull Terriers, Pugs, Spaniels... and many more.

Re: kittens in pets shop

You expect it abroad but not over here, it's disgusting, if that was local to me I'd be organising a boycott.

Re: kittens in pets shop

Our local pet shop sells them as well. They are kept in large cages at side of counter and look clean. They sel them for £60 each with a kitten pack. I have noticed though they are fed on adult whiskas. When i asked them about it they said thats what the person feeds them on were they get them from. They had 2 different litters in other day when i called in. Dont usually go in there but needed cat litter I could have brought them all home there was 6 in 1 cage and 4 in another. I know rspca keep an eye on them though to make sure they are been kept ok.

Re: kittens in pets shop

I too thought this was a thing of the past What gets me is what sort of people sell their kitten & puppies to petshops in the first place? Do the babies stay with their mums long enough? Has a vet checked them over? Do shop keepers really know how to care for a mass of kittens? The questions are endless.

This should be outlawed!! And if any pet shop near me did this I would never buy anything from there and would do my best to make sure no one else did either
