I really don't think that would work either. A licence I feel would just be another way of the Govornment getting their hands on your money to throw away, I happen to think we pay enough to them already, there has to be another solution being as they didn't work the first time around.

I'm not saying we don't pay enough already, but it would help. If we've done it before we can learn from previous mistakes.

I would be happy giving money to the GVT if I knew it was going towards helping animals have better lives.

Before it was only a dog license, not a pet license.

Of course people would still get hold of them, but it would tackle it, even it it made a slight difference surely it'd be well worth it?

all you had to do is go to the post office and fill in a form..but if like many dog owners you didnt bother nothing would be done unless your dog was found roaming.i think my facts are right. its been a while now since we had dog licenses.

Re: Pet License

How would the government know what pets people already have?
Who would police it?
I think it would be the responsible who would pay the fee and the irresponsible idiots who would get away with it - its through the idiots that licenses are needed but they would get away with it - meaning the good people have to pay out yet more money.....
In an ideal world I back the idea but in reality I dont think it would work!

I'm unhappy already giving what I do to the Govornment, knowing how they waste it, how do you know it would give animals better lives? Take for instance the NHS we've listened to the Governments promises for years saying more money will be ploughed into the NHS service - yet these are empty promises and people are still loosing their lives because there isn't enough funding. When I had my baby six months ago there was another woman in with me whose baby died at birth, why? Because there wasn't enough people actually taking care of her when she was giving birth - she was left in the labour suite to give birth ON HER OWN!
With such instances of human error, the animals don't have a chance!

Being negative about new policies in the UK will get our country nowhere. People constantly moan about the state of this country but are never willing to pull their own fingers out.

To be honest I partly agree, but think it's well worth the risk.

Lets say it would cost £45 to get a license, then a worker would come and visit you, ask you a few questions, check out the animals' lving space. Your knowledge of animals, etc etc etc. Then your license is granted.

They could gain fairly accurate records forcefully from vets. And people could easily report people for not having a license.

When you're out walking your doga policeman might ask to see your license, just as they would if you're driving.

If you take your pet to the vet, they would ask to see a license, and if you dont have one, they 'flag' you. And give you say 4 weeks to get one. (but still give treatment).

I think within 2 years it would be a pretty realistic task to phase in pet licenses.

Please don't take that personally Debbie, I am generalizing there not aiming it directly at you.
