Free range or not!

As a vegetarian, I am always careful to buy free range, organic eggs. Living in a village we can see the chickens running free, so its always a bonus.

My family however, are meat eaters, and eat organic where possible. Organic should mean that the animals have a good quality of life, until slaughter.

I just wish that organic produce was cheaper, to be affordable for everyone. I am sure that people would be far healthier as a result, but perhaps you have a different view?

Re: Free range or not!

there was a bit in our local paper last week about organic, and from what i can remember they said that organic still use pesticides and i think it said that they sometimes use ones that have copper in it that never breaks down in the soil or something. would dig it out but has been recycled already. i think for organic to be cheaper we need to establish more market stalls that will sell them, we have a farmers market every third week in northampton, i dont know what they sell tho cause i have never been, but maybe that sort of thing. i buy frozen veg and free range eggs but thats about it.

Re: Free range or not!

We have fresh meat I have a farmer friend and we buy all our meat off him cheaper than the supermarket, and more taste to it as well. As for eggs my brother and my sister keep chickens so they are fresh as well.

Re: Free range or not!

I always make sure the eggs I buy are free range as the price difference isnt huge and if we go to a market I will always buy the fresh meat as its not much dearer but in taste its miles apart

I would love to buy everything free range as I hate the way the animals are treated but with sometimes a £5 difference between a free range chicken and a caged one its difficult choice. I know it shoudnt be down to money but with living costs the way they are its hard.
