Re: Why are people against Pets at home

I agree that P@H have there faults but what company doesn't.

Unless customers give feedback and bring any problems to a managers attention nothing will change.

Re: Why are people against Pets at home

My 2 local pets at home have always been brilliant, only thing that I dont like is how they are keeping tortoises as they shouldnt be kept in tanks.

Re: Why are people against Pets at home

I find the staff unhelpful, and sometimes rude that is if you can find one, and somethings are over priced.

Yes that's a point, it always seems hard to find an assistant even when the store isn't particularly busy. There are the ones on the checkout of course but they are usually serving someone. There don't seem as many in my local stores as there used to be.

Still a bit annoyed that they wouldn't let me have my 10% off though.
I have spent absolutely loads with pets at home too over the years but they prefer to treat their 'new' customers better than the old ones.

As a rule plecs and goldfish shouldnt be kept together. Aside from the fact plecs are tropical freshwater fish and goldfish are coldwater! plecs will eat away at the goldfish "slime" which protects them from disease and eventually the gf can either become ill through a wound or die from a disease.

I do like my local P@H and their fish display is impressive-I had a problem with ammonia levels in my new aquarium and the girl I spoke to was fab and gave me so much info and advice and it worked a treat

I actually find P@H cheaper than our local supermarket sainsburys for food items.

And my sister used to work there for 18 months and also had to pass several tests before being allowed to sell animals/give advice and I thought this was a really good idea-better than our local independant pet shop who just employs saturday staff who have no idea and seem more interested in texting their friends about the next party they are arranging!!

I'M NOT. The only gripe i have is lack of knowledge by most staff and the fact that they sell some crappy dog feeds.

Re: Why are people against Pets at home

Never really had any problems with them to be honest, our locl one is good and there is one member of staff I always appoach as I have spoken to her a lot and she knows her stuff, if she doesn't she wont make it up, she will go and find an answer.

Re animals being in small cages etc, in our local, they come in mid-week, by Monday night, they are pretty much all gone. Rabbits, hammies, the lot. The only ones really to remain are the giant rabbits and reptiles... But the girl I speak to when Im in there says that she turns so many people away that want bunnies and hammies for all mannor of reasons...

I think it all comes down to your personal morals and experiances. Some people hate Tesco's, I like it. Some people hate KFC, I like it. It all comes down to personal choices

Re: Why are people against Pets at home

one thing i never understand about any pet shop is why do they sell animal cages that are far too small.
Surely if they knew anything about animals they would only sell cages, hutches etc that are the correct sizes.
Some of the cages they sell for hamsters i wouldn`t put a flea in.
I used to keep my 2 rats in a huge chinchilla cage(which i didn`t think was big enough for chins)and i still thought it was too small.
Its all aboiut getting the public to come back and buy a bigger cage.
There are always dead fish in the tanks.
Too many animals in 1 cage,it doesn`t matter if they aren`t going to be there for long.
Rabbits and guine pigs together!!!
staff standing round chatting about what boy/girl they pulled at the weekend, whilst serving customers.

Re: Why are people against Pets at home

Our local P@H is very good. There are tons of staff to offer advice and help. In one shopping trip, you can have 3-4 staff asking you if you need any help, and when the bag of food was too heavy for us to carry, they politely carried it all the way to the car for us, so very helpful. Don't like how they sell animals, but other than that, I can't fault them.
