His friends should take a look inside my old IGCSE biology book, lots of nice diseased lung photos in there. The A-level book is even better...

They don't see it as cool they see it as a way of getting out of getting a job and paying their way in life

When I was in year 9 a girl in my year had a baby. I was mortified but she was bragging about the benefits her mum got and that she would get

Of course a baby is also a way of getting attention!! She suddenly had a lot more friends throughout her pregnancy but they soon buggered off when she gave birth!

Re: 11 year old Mother!?

I don't really like to comment too much on stories from other countries, i don't really have any knowledge of their culture and what is consider okay and not okay over there.

But that seems so young, i'm sure not many girls can ever physically have kids at that age?

Re: 11 year old Mother!?

It is interesting how people seem to link young mothers with something gone wrong with "modernity" whilst loads of "girls" are destined to be wife and mothers at a very young age in many other cultures and if anything it corresponds more to a very traditional way of being than a modern one... the circle of "history" I suppose...
But yeah I agree it is not right for girls that age to be married and have children...

I dont readily believe that bit about her being the youngest mother though...maybe the youngest in a developed country...

The youngest recorded pregnancy and birth was by a 5 year old girl (she survived). She was raped by her uncle or something and had a baby.

I've also heard of 8 year olds having babies.

The human body is actually much more efficient, capable and suited to have babies from i think 13 to 19 but unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't think people (particularly in the western world) are mentally prepared or capable to adjust in most circumstances.

If it were 1780 and life expectancy wasn't over 35, it would be different, but now...it's only 10% of your life! they should be children!

Or financially prepared, as the parents are undoubtedly the ones who are going to have holes burned in their wallets. Also how can these kids cope with looking after a baby and studying for GCSE's or A-levels?
