In Flanders fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Re: In Flanders fields

A wee video I've had on my bebo for 2yrs now.

a pittance of time - Google Videos

I always wear a poppy, starting on the last week in October. And my kids get them at the same time.
Thankfully the school they attend now DOES allow them to wear them, and even has a collection for poppies.

I went to the Somme battlefields last october and found the name of my great great Uncle on the Menin Gate in Ypres. His name in up there with the 50,000 + names of others who's remains have still to be found.

I'm going back to the Somme battlefields next year, and hopefully our tour guide has some more info on the regiment my great, great uncle served in.

Re: In Flanders fields

Just changed mine (hopefully). I'll be laying a wreath for our Guide district on Sunday at one end of my town, and my Guides are laying a wreath at the smaller service at the other end of town.

Were you in the armed forces Tashi? If so, which one and how long did you serve?

I wear my poppy with pride every year and I am proud to say it has passed on to the next generation too as both my girls wear them too now
