Re: In Flanders fields

We've been to the Somme a few times and wondered around the war graves, and I still can't get my head around how many died in such a short time. We went to the Canadian War Memorial, and saw the trenches they were fighting in, the German trenches were that close they could nearly have shaken hands. So many young men on both sides died.

Re: In Flanders fields

I'm just about to change my avatar.

My sister and her husband both have poppy tattoos in rememberance.

I couple of years ago my sister and I were driving in Preston on Rememberance Sunday. We'd just driven on to the multi storey carpark when on the radio they played the Last Post at 11am. We stopped the car where we were and bowed our heads for a minutes slience. Unfortunately the cars behind us weren't as reverential as we were and they beeped their horns and got angry at us for stopping. It seems some people just don't get that they wouldn't be free to go shopping whenever they wanted if it weren't for the sacrifice of those young men who fought for our freedoms.

I always wear a poppy at this time of year.

Thank you for everything you did when you were in the service and to your OH and also to your step son for everthing he is doing now. I hope he stays safe.

I wanted to say thank you to the people in uniforms selling poppies but don't have the guts (am too shy to go up to a stranger to say that).

Can we get this as a sticky until the 12th November please? Halloween had one, but i think this is far more deserving.

Thank you and dont be they will be so pleased to hear those words, we are running a shoe box appeal at the mo for the troops in Afghanistan and only last week we had a most wonderful letter, we dont send out to anyone in particular but this one box had found its way to a lad that lives just up the road from me his letter to us was one that brought a tear to everyone in the Community Centre where I help out, words mean so much - please dont be afraid to speak to them

Me too, I've got the poppy stickers for the front window and back window of our cars, they're on all year round. I still give a donation every year as well when I see the collection boxes.

Thank you for making this thread a sticky, I saw it last night but didn't have time to post (the computer was needed for homework by the kids) so it saves me trawling to find it this morning.

ETA:- I love all your avatars xx
