You say potato, I say potarto.......

This stems from another thread, on which we were discussing different names people have for common things, depending on which area they come from, i.e corporation pop (council juice) = good old tap water.

This example relates to the Nottingham area. Bro in law had ordered a 4 piece suit from Argos. His wife asked him to ring up because a piece was missing. In his best snobby solicitors voice he inquired as to when his 'humpy' would be arriving. This completely baffled the assistant, who admitted she had no idea as to what he meant. After describing said 'humpy' the assistant rather curtly told him that the said item was actually a footstool..........

So footstool = humpy. Funny I always thought it was a pouffe.........

Re: You say potato, I say potarto.......

Lol... Haven't heard that one for years.

my paticular pet peeve of (major generalisation) people from this side of yorkshire, is the fact that they miss H's off the start of words! Harrogate becomes 'arrogate etc etc.. I know not everyone does it, but my OH does, and so does the girl I work with... drives me mental
