Exclamation Those cheeky rats!!!

Has anyone else got a rat problem at the moment?i reckon its because the council have stopped sending the rat man out for free!my male rabbit lives in a large walk-in run,i was hanging out the washing yesterday when i glanced at him laying in the shade, then i heard his food bowl rattle, then his water bottle make a noise! i went up to the run and there were 6 dirty great rats, one was sitting and climbing on my rabbits head, and one was drinking from the bl**** water bottle!!!!mad:buns in a cage at the moment as we have put 3 traps down in the run, crafty bu8**** just nicked food of and didnt set them off!dont really want to put poison down as im worried dogs might get to them.

Re: Those cheeky rats!!!

Clare, you can get poison traps that cats & dogs can't get at. I'm sure the council would know where to get them. We get free poison here, only had to use it once, same thing, they were after the rabbits food ect. Hope you get it sorted soon

ahhhhhhhhhhhh I hate rats! My Mum's Moggie, Big Boy Nemo! brings home so many dead baby rats, there are loads of them. Think he bumped into Daddy rat once as he had a really nasty bite on his lip which he had to go onto anti biotics for!

Re: Those cheeky rats!!!

I do get rat problems because of the chickens and guinea pigs, and next doors horses but it is worse in the winter, at the mo I think they are in the fields.
I did come down stairs the other morning to find two almost half grown rats laid out neatly on my door mat! (i do love my cat!!!)

when I first moved into my house I had mucky neighbours, and the rat problem was so bad I had to call in the council. The rat man said that it was the worst infestation for the size of propety, he had seen in 30 years doing the job. I was strangly proud of this fact. Then I got the mad cat and he sorted them and the rabbits out.

I do worry about putting down poison and only do it with proper bait boxes, but have had no luck using traps.
Good luck

Re: Those cheeky rats!!!

Its not the dogs getting the actual poison im worried about,i wouldnt let that happenits when the poisoned rat after 2 days stumbles out from under the shed and gets out into the open and my dogs grab it and chew it up!!im worried they might then get the poison in them

They tend to die underground, but I understand you not wanting to risk it!

Re: Those cheeky rats!!!

Yep we have more of a problem in the winter time as well. We tend to see more mice than rats.

At the mo we have those sonic plug in things and also peppermint oil spread round the house in case a mouse decides to live with us.

The rats we see more next door by their aviary and rabbit pens.

I hate using poison in case of the dogs as well though
