Smile Re: new kitten is not happy

Good news! Our new kitty is much better. Seems he was socialized by my brother-in-law and now he responds very well to my husband. I did spray just a little Felliway in his room yesterday afternoon. The next time I visited with him he was still hiding but quite and I could see his little orange nose peaking out of hiding. A few hours later, my husband went in to view TV. The little guy came out. My husband picked him up and he snuggled in his lap for at least an hour. This morning he ate 1/2 can of Fancy Feast and some of dry kitten food. I showed him his kitty condo with a dangling mouse. He played with the mouse and snuggled up for a nap in the condo. Later he let my husband pick him up again. He cuddled in my husband's lap, purring. He is using his litter box and has finally had a bowl movement. He does not hide when I enter. I let him smell my finger but I do not think he would let me pick him up. Through all of this, no more growling and just one little hiss at me. He has stopped meowing as well

Is Fancy Feast and dry kitten food OK. How often should he be fed? I just hope I can get him into a carrier on Monday for his vet checkup. Probably, my husband should be the one to pick him up while I have the carrier ready.

I feel so relieved. He is so precious. I hope my four other babies will not be too offended and that we will all be one happy family very soon.

Thank you all for your help and guidance. I have not had a kitten for at least 14 years. My three strays were adults when they adopted me.

Bev

Re: new kitten is not happy

I don't know alot about that make of food, is it American?

I just leave a bowl of complete biscuits (Royal Canin Baby Cat 34) out all day with fresh water for Alfie to snack on and I also give him wet food twice a day also (Almo Nature Kitten)

As long as the food you are giving him specifies it is for kittens it will be fine.

Alfie tends to like eating small amounts frequently throughout the day, but every kitten is different.

So glad your little kitty is warming to you
