RSPCA,reporting cruelty.
What are your experiences with this???ive reported a puppy farm before, and nothing happened!i witnesses some terrible things, but this was 3 years ago and they are still breeding! Also these people kept a pony at the farm we were renting land at,the pony had a foal(unexpectantly)was put in a stable and left without food and water for 2 days!!if it wasnt for others feeding and watering it it would have had none.I contacted the rspca who said if they came and found water or food(that we had given)they couldnt do anything,i asked when they would come, and they said they couldnt say.
we were also giving water to 2 of their other horses,it was mid summer and hot. anyway i wasnt prepared to leave the horses without water indefinatly,so nothing ever happened. |

Re: RSPCA,reporting cruelty.
I've reported quite a few incidents of cruelty. The RSPCA did nothing on any of them as far as I know.
One incident was a Border Collie that we fostered for 5 weeks through a charity, when we got him he was 4 1/2 stone overweight, had matted fur all over him, stunk, had sores on his belly from urinating on himself and sores and poo all over his backside. He could barely get up the step into our house from the backdoor and was out of breath walking from the car to to the house. We put him straight in the bath, cleaned him up, trimmed the mated fur away and got him to the vets to get some cream for the sores and to get him on a diet. We cleaned him up, groomed him and applied the cream daily. We gradually built his walks up and he lost over a stone while he was with us. ![]() We tried to get ownership passed over to us but his owners played a crafty one and only refused just before he could go home. We sent him home with a care plan we did on the computer, grooming brushes, smaller bowl, cream for his sores and his diet food which we had paid for. Because we thought we were going to be able to keep him we didn't report it to the RSPCA until then. ![]() We stayed on good terms with the owners for the sake of the dog and saw him once a week to take him a walk and clean him up as they still didn't keep him clean despite us giving them the brushes and cream. Within a few weeks he had stopped losing any weight and the RSCPA refused to do anything because we were seeing him once a week. ![]() So we took the hard decision to stop seeing him in the hope they would then do something. They didn't and so he was left getting no help, probably piling the pounds back on. I hope and pray that the poor dog has passed on and isn't suffering any longer. ![]() The RSPCA are a waste of time. If I saw animal cruelty now I would deal with it myself, not waste my time with them. ![]() |

Re: RSPCA,reporting cruelty.
The pony that i referred to in the beginning was a shetland mare,i took her on,literally walking her(dragging)her from her field into mine!she turned out to be a gorgeous mare teaching my daughter to ride, the owners said nothing until 3 years after i took her in,saying they wanted her back,it didnt happen
![]() They never took it any furthur. She was skin and bone when i took her on,and had a obsession with water(because she never had any)she would stand at the trough and literally cover herself in it. |

Re: RSPCA,reporting cruelty.
I can't understand the RSPCA. I've called them out when i have found a cat and they have said that because i took the cat into my house its now mine and they would not come out
then there was a mistreated dog, which they did come out to and said that because the owner would say he would take it to the vets each time there was nothing they could do, despite the fact it was still being mistreated and people were still reporting it. It died in the end and our local paper reported how it was mistreated!!!! When my son found a deer that had been hit by a car, they were straight out, which makes sense, but i feel that they respond quicker to wild animals than to domestic ones. I don't bother with them now, we have a good animal charity that are really good. |

I'm afraid the RSPCA prefer to go for soft targets - rather like the police, in fact. They will happily persecute breeders but travellers and farmers are tougher nuts to crack. Liz |

Re: RSPCA,reporting cruelty.
I dare say the RSPCA do some fantastic work but from personal experience and going by what ive heard, I think on a whole they are a shower of sh*t.
I had an elderly aunt who lived in London some years back. She had an old Akita who's legs gave way on him and he just couldnt get up. The was obviously in pain and became quite aggressive when my aunt tried to go near him. She didnt drive and the local vets was a good mile away. She had no-one to help her and as the vet wouldnt make a house visit she called the RSPCA. She explained the situation and that she desperately needed to get him to the vet but had no way of getting there. She asked if they could try and help her get the dog to the vet and the answer was simply 'no'. She asked then if they could atleast come out and see for themselves how aggressive the dog had become and if need be put the dog to sleep, again the answer was 'no'. My aunt hung up the phone and went to try and move the dog inside. Needless to say the dog bit her arm as she tried to move him. She phoned the RSPCA back and told them the dog had just bit her. The response from the RSPCA was that if she didnt get the dog to a vet asap she was liable for prosecution! confused:![]() In the end she called the police who had to destroy the dog there and then and my aunt had to have stitches. ![]() To me this just sums the RSPCA up.

Re: RSPCA,reporting cruelty.
We also have the PDSA here, that is meant to help those with pets who can't afford vet fees. my widowed mum and i took her lab to them as she had developed a flea allergy, and would need ongoing treatment, ( this is what they told us). my mum is on a state pension and i could not afford to help her with the fees as i had a family and was not in full time employment. but because the dog was registered at a vets from when my dad was alive they would not help her, even though we would have given a donation each time. so we had to take her to the vets and explain and they took her and fostered her out. she was old, and it really upset us but were left with no alternative. crazy world
