I have geniunely had the most fantastic weekend in ageeees!
Yesterday was brilliant, as I took my young horse out to a local showjumping competition. He's not been the easiest horse in the world, as he's not only green but also very sensitive so its taken a fair amount of time to not only gain his trust in me, but also in everything else around him. I was so pleased with him yesterday as he loaded like an absolute pro (pre-winter it could easily take several hours if he was going to load at all - but we spent many an hour with him over the winter practising going near the lorry, getting feet on the ramp and finally into the lorry) and then jumped clear, although somewhat distractedly in the clear-round class. In fact, I took him in again for a second time and he jumped fantastically again
Then I took him in a 2'3-2'6 class and again, he jumped clear and I was so pleased with him as I had his attention for 85% of the time (there was a time, when I didn't have this at home, much less at a competition!) and we got through to the jump off. This was doubly pleasing, as although the height was small there was plenty of spooky fences and a very tricky combinatiion that knocked plenty of people out. The jump-off I took very slowly with him, as he has a tendancy to rush and jump like a hurdler, rather than a horse - but again we were clear and came fifth overall (out of a class of about 27).
Then today .... the snow came! After babysitting last night until the very small hours, I was absolutely shattered, but my brother woke me up very early to tell me that it was snowing outside and I simply had to get up! Yes, my Brother is older than me - and at 24 I didn't expect a reaction like that from him to snow!
We've had about 7 inches of snow thus far and it doesn't look like it's going to let up any time soon and as we live very much in the middle of nowhere going out, like we had planned - was very much out of the question. Instead, my littlke cousins (4 and 7) came over and we've spent all day at our neighbours farm causing absolute havoc with their small children in the snow. I had totally forgotten how much fun sledging was - although we did have to use old feed bags rather than a sledge as my Father had thrown ours away years ago!

Which made the whole day rather more haphazard- it's incredibly difficult to steer with a plastic bag much less stop!
So yes, I've had an absolutely brilliant day shrieking in the snow and getting absolutely soaking wet ... we are all sporting red noses and probably plenty of bruises in the morning. I've lost count of how many times I landed in a ditch or a hedge through total lack of control!
What about everyone else? How has your weekend been?
