Would you find this weird?

I went out tonight for a pub meal with my bf, I drove there as I was meeting the boyfriend, his brother and his O/H at the pub. My boyfriend is on the early this week at work, so we left earlier than is brother and his girlfriend (about 9.45) and I drove my boyfriend home.

We live in a rural part of the country, nothing but villages and open farmland for miles this way - and my boyfriend lives in a larger village about twenty minutes from the pub and about half an hour away from me.

I drove him home and was driving back to mine and as you would expect, country lanes at that time of night are pretty quiet - until I noticed a Police car was behind me. At first, I thought nothing of it (although I was secretly grateful I hadn't decided to light a cigarette just yet!) until I decided to turn off to drive through a village, rather than carry up that lane (I don't particulaly like that lane late at night to drive through) - and the Police car did the same.

I thought that was odd, as at no time did it try to overtake me - I purposely was driving slower than normal - and then decided to take a couple more de-tours to ge back to the lane I needed to be on. Again, with the Police car following me - it continued to follow me for another five minutes or so (I was still driving slightly slower than normal) until it flashed at me to pull over.

I pulled over, and the two Policeman got out of the car - I asked if everything was ok (as geniunely could not work out why they had stopped me). They said everything was fine, but could they look at my license - showed them my license and that was all fine. They then asked me to get out of the car, so I did and they were asking me if my car was mine (which it is), if it was insured, taxed, MOT up to date and who the insurance was with (it is insured and everything else is up to date - but I wasn't entirely sure of all the details, as my Dad sorted it all out, I just pay him X amount each month).

That was all fine - and then they started asking me where I had come from and where I was going. I explained that I had been out for something to eat and just dropped my bf off - they then asked why he wasn't with me!? I was a bit freaked out at this, bearing in mind I'm a teenag girl, it's night on a pitchblack road with nobody else about and I've got two Police officers asking me if and why I'm alone at night?

They asked a few more random questions - including 'did I have a pleasant evening?', what the hell am I supposed to say?! Well, yes I was, up until this point. I then asked if they wanted anything else and then said no, I could continue going home - so I got in my car and drove off, although they were still behind me for some of the way.

I turned off again, into a nearby pub carpark, to ring my Mum and told her what had happened and that I was freaked out by it - who bless her heart, drove out to meet me a and follow me home.

But we both think it was very odd - I'd done nothing wrong, yet they followed me for ages and then asked me lots of rather strnge questions about my evening and my boyfriend?! Dad, reckons they were just checking up on why I was alone late at night and making sure I was safe- but 10/10.30pm isn't that late and I clearly wasn't doing anything remotely illegal!

I don't know - it's just freaked me out a little bit, and I must admit, they did make me feel quite vulnerable on the roadside with the two of them questioning me about my personal life!

Re: Would you find this weird?

You should've asked and written down they're names - considering time and place it could be quite normal to do for you.

Re: Would you find this weird?

I know I thought of that once I got home, or at least taken the number plate of the car I suppose - typically, I think of these things afterwards!

If your car is legit (which I'm sure it is) they have no reason to actually stop you, every detail including insurance is on their database which can be accessed in seconds.
they saw you driving alone in a quiet area, so they decided to follow, whilst following they did all the checks on your car...
you became slightly nervous & drove slower, which to them shows some kind of guilt...
they pull you to confirm you are who they have already determined you are...
then because you are vulnerable & they are power tripping fools, they decide to ask you personal things & get a kick out of it...

All because they have nowt better to do, or should i rephrase that to...
they are not capable of doing anything constructive......
Could be well true.......

Re: Would you find this weird?

i have heard that if a woman is driving her car on her own, and the police ask her to stop she is within her rights NOT too, if you they are alone, and that she can call the police to make sure they are legit! before she stops!! cant remember where i see it now but if you call the police im sure they could tell you if i am correct in what i am saying!!
