value food ... the good and bad...

a few months ago i went mental with online shopping and searched "value" as a compulsive online buyer i went on to buy all sorts

now theere are certain items left, is it just me or are some value things good and others bad?

For example
white bread = bad
wholemeal = not bad

jam= good
gravy = bad

its topical seeing as all shops are trying to force thier own brands on us now

Re: value food ... the good and bad...

I buy a fair bit of 'value' food.. And I have to say, some of the tesco value stuff is not great..

their coco snaps, my boy eats them but i cant they aren't very much like coco pops..
the value white bread is always going stale at the bottom when i buy it (only in extreme money shortness)

and i agree that the value gravy is bad!

the value choc digestives are nice tho

x

Re: value food ... the good and bad...

I never buy 'value' brands, mainly because of if you read the ingredients....well!!

But I always buy home brands, like, tescos bread instead of kingsmill or something for instance.
tescos own biccis (74p for like a GIANT packet!!) instead of £.150 for 5! god.. I fancy a bicci now!

I dont see any difference in it and its cheaper!

I am buying alot of frozen now as I am so picky if I buy fresh it normally goes off & I waste money and nows the time my belt has to come in!

Re: value food ... the good and bad...

I buy the odd value thing. Never really though. Mde the bad mistake of buying value mince once, and never ever again. Tasted like crap, and was full of fatty lumps.

Re: value food ... the good and bad...

As a student, you would think that I should buy value foods...however...I could never eat value salad cream, ketchup, cheese or crisps.

Instead, I just buy whatever brands are on offer!!

On the other hand, I always buy value beans because I eat so many!!

Re: value food ... the good and bad...

its quite bizarre really certain own brands are loaded with sugars and additives then some for example ready meals are lower in fat and cals than 'healty living' options.....
i dont like value meat.
I like a good brand name hobnobs but the OhH is vegan and he gets quite a few value biscuits he can eat seeing as they dont add the luxury of milk!

Re: value food ... the good and bad...

A lot of Sainsburys value stuff is good -they are becoming good and ethical. A lot of their meat including the value brand is the freedom food.

I buy value sardines in tomato sauce for my doglets, not cos I am a cheapskate but because it isn't so rich.

I also buy a lot of the value fruit and veg. The reason being is because it is generally the stuff that is in season and their is an abundant supply,,so it tastes fresh and helps to sustain our environment.

I will not buy value toilet paper - no thank you.
