Re: SAT's at school
We have a 14yr old son who's been doing SAT's since yr 3(7 yrs old) and it doesn't stress him now but it did slightly at primary school. He does worry a little now because he is about to embark on A-level choices and the outcome of this will determine the start of his future career, and of course the course's he can take at college, i do think their is probably more pressure on our kids than their was on us-having said that i personally left school at 13 1/2 to get my career at the time Machinist come Mcdonalds server going
So what do i know..![]() Some kids though can do poorly at school right up to yr 9(14 yrs) and then go on to be a very successful city slicker with accompanying apartment in France Maybe have a quiet word with her head of year and tell them that the pressure your child feels is making her unwell and unhappy and take it from their, sometimes it helps-not always i know, but sometimes![]() |

She is always saying she is stupid and dumb. She just does not realise it. I want to have a word with her teacher but she is getting upset and does not want me to as she thinks its goin to make things worse, and they will think she is thick. (her words not mine) I think i am going to have to do it secretly. Theres always something............ ![]() |

Re: SAT's at school
My son is always calling himself stupid and he is no such thing, I was always a little bit like that in school but he is so much worse than I ever was.
I do feel for your daughter and hope she does well and starts to feel a little more confident, I took my son to karate to try and help with his confidence, for the first fiew lessons he was putting himself down but once he got his first belt he started to realise that he was good at it, he is now a green belt red tag, and I have seen a big change in him, he is still very critical of himself even when I or the teachers praise him but he is alot better than he was |

Re: SAT's at school
My daughter goes disco dancing and has got lots of trophys and certificates for it.
It just other things that she lacks confidence in. If she was alot older then i would say it was a middle age crisis. BBut it could be hormones, she is getting closer to the age .......... ![]() |

Re: SAT's at school
I am a secondary School Teacher and have responsibility for Key Stage 3 pupils.
I have to say, we as teachers (generally) agree that the SAT testing in Year 6 and 9 is extremely stressful for the students. It is not the school who places the emphasis on these SAT results, it is in fact the government. If we didnt push for the students to achieve the best SATs they can, we would be deemed as a failing school which would have wider implications. We have just been OFSTED'd and deemed an 'outstanding' school. Yet the core subjects teach to the testing and kids are put under immense pressure to perform well. Problem is the kids in particularly in primary school are spoon fed what they need to know for the SAT examination, and when they arrive to us in Year 7 their other basic skills and knowledge is lacking because of it. I can honestly say most teachers would agree with what is being said in this post, yet we have no choice. Hope i didnt blab on then ![]() ![]()
