SAT's at school

Right for anyone who has children and they have or are at the age for doing there SAT's test (Yr6).
What is your opinion on them???

Me personally , i think they are absolutely stupid.
My daughter is in yr 6 and will be doing them in May.
She is getting herself so worked up over them and worrying so much, she is making herself ill.

She is thinking she is not good enough and is going to get really bad marks.

I think the schools put too much pressure on the kids at this age and make it out to be a too bigger thing. My daughter is 11 yrs old. Ar e the results of this tests really gonna effect the rest of her life?? I think not!!

I am fit to burst regarding this...........

Aargghhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Re: SAT's at school

my son is 12,1/2 and has been through this he also got all worked up and stressed, its so unfair on them they are way to young for this, the teachers already know the standard of the kids work from the classwork, they will have enough tests and stress later, why add more.

Re: SAT's at school

thats exactly my point...
I am furious with the school at the moment as my daughter is an emotional mess about it.
She broke her thumb in the summer and still gets pain from it when she writes. Hence untidy writing.
She is worried abotu that as the teachers have told her that she needs to write neater,
It is too much pressure for such a yooung age....

Re: SAT's at school

I think they are a waste of valuable teaching time. My daughter who is now 21, was the first lot to start taking the sats at 5 years old, do they still do them at 5 ? My daughter used to worry about them, but my son who is two years older never cared, they always did well, but I felt sorry for the kids who didn't, who needs telling at such a tender age they have failed.

Re: SAT's at school

they dont do them at 5 here, that is much too young how can you judge a child so young thay are still babies, my son always does well but he still gets stressed and thinks hes going to do badly,

Re: SAT's at school

I think they may have stopped the testing at 5 here too, because of when my daughter was born, she didn't start school until after easter, then had SATS tests in the June, like I say it was the first year they did it so young. Lots of the children couldn't read or write yet, she did ok because she could read quite well before she started school.

Re: SAT's at school

I think they should be stopped altogether.
They are too young to have this much pressure. I know my daughter is sensitive and likes to do things well.

Re: SAT's at school

My daughter is 13 years this year and has been through them - they too had booster classes and extra leassons to help any children who needed it - the school was really good with the children - My daughter is now in High School and is glad she did those SATS now as its helped her to better understand what standard of work is expected of her - shes blossomed since the SATS - she was a little worried while doing them but teacher support aswell as support from home helped her

Re: SAT's at school

I agree Debbie, support from home goes a long way in helping the children, cope and achieve, unfortunately for the children who lack the support, it will just be another failure, they already know they are behind, they don't need a number to prove it.
