Kitten passing wind!!

Can anyone help???

I have a 7 week old kitten, called Missy and have had her just over a week, she has been fine until a couple of days ago when she has started passing wind quite often and it smells awful.
She has been on Whiskas meat in gravy pouches and i have started gradually mixing the fish in jelly pouches, could this have anything to do with it. I also gave her a little cooked chicken as a treat on Sunday, maybe this is the culprit??
Another thing which i am thinking could have caused this is i had her at the vets on saturday for her first check up and they started her on her first worming treatment which i had to give her once a day over 3 consecutive days, is this a possibility??
Her poo's are fine and have not changed in their consistency, im just looking for any advice anyone can give.
Thanks

Re: Kitten passing wind!!

Maybe you could try switching her to dry food, i.e. kitten chow instead, which I think she's supposed to be on mostly, and it's better for her teeth so they can develop properly. A treat now and then wouldn't hurt but not all the time.

Hi, I can't feed any of my pets chicken, the smell is so awful you would want to move out. I had to also change my kittens to dry food and they do seem to be alot better.

I think its also funny when they pass wind they look at your in disgust as if you have done it.

xx

Re: Kitten passing wind!!

i have tried her with Purely Kittified from pets at home and she just wasn't interested. i then tried her on iams for kittens which she has tried but she seems to still prefer her wet food and i dont want her to be hungry when she neednt be. i give her wet food 3 times a day and the iams is left for her for the rest of the day but she doesn't seem to eat much of it.

Re: Kitten passing wind!!

When I first got my 2, they used to guff alot. Like everytime you picked them up... or they would walk passed you and you would get the smell. Like rotten eggs, it would smell like that everytime they broke wind. Even to this day... I know when they have done one because it has the exact same smell, like bad rotten eggs.

Mine may have passed wind so much because they had a gut problem. It could be a kitten thing. Or it could be their diet.

Maybe they will outgrow it. Once my 2 got over their gut problem, the regular guffing went away... thank God!

Re: Kitten passing wind!!

None of animals can eat the gravy foods, they have to have supermeat or the jelly food , or a plain complete. That gravy is no good!

Re: Kitten passing wind!!

I only tried 'gravy' meals once, the smell from the cats was just awful!

Ordinary plain cooked chicken shouldn't cause any probs, it's bland with no [hopefully] additives and is often recommended by vets to help cats get over tummy upsets. It's not a complete food initself though, not enough nutrients , so you need to find some sort of complete food [dried, wet or both] she likes and that agrees with her.

Agree... gravy = smelly arses for pets. Dry food... add water if you need to moisten. Good luck!
