Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I dont think there should be a total ban! Because as you well know if we arent allowed anything what do we do? Find all ways possible of getting what we want!
I think they should not be on sale for the public, but just for organised events, and these should have a special licence reissued every year at a set fee!
It is terrifying for most animals, but i had an english setter, and he used to love going out for walks on bonfire night, neva botherd him at all, but then there werent anything between his ears either pmsl. sorry charlie dog hehe (rip).

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I agree with the posters who advocate licensed events only and no over the counter sales to the general public. I would also like to see some sort of restriction on who can be given a licence and when they are allowed to set off fireworks. All the pubs near us have some sort of rota system - so for a fortnight around bonfire night there is a firework display at one particular pub each night. I think firework night should be on November 5th and then that's it. Similarly, New years Eve firework celebrations should be January 31st only, and not three or for days either side - and the same for Diwali and the Chinese New Year.

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I lived in Melbourne for 10 years and in the state of victoria it is illegal to sell/possess or let off fireworks without a licence. this keeps it down to civic events properly organised by pyrotechnics (and therefor worth seeing!).

I don't believe in a total ban, but since I've been back from Oz things have changed in this country. When we were kids we were taught responsibility re fireworks and there was a firework code. One of the most important things was to keep all pets indoors. That's ok when you know when the fireworks are going to be set off, but since my return it appears to be Sept to January at any random time. I bl00dy hate them!!! My old dog is utterly catatonic with fear and it makes me furious. Is it just me or are they louder now too?

And the law may have changed, but I don't see anyone enforcing it...

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

Looks like I'm going to go against the grain again on this one .

Bonfire night is one of my all time favourite days of the year, I love absolutely everything about it, and I love to have friends and family round for a firework display, drinks, baked potatoes & mushy peas with mint sauce . So if there was a total ban I'd really miss one of the annual events I have and throughly enjoy.

Now I do agree that there is a time and place for them, and it does hack me off that bonfire night seems to start on October 1st and end on January 31st.

Don't bat an eyelid. Obviously if they were terrified of them I wouldn't have them at home (I'm not that much of an ogre!)

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

Fireworks are already banned in some countries in the EU, when will the UK follow suit considering millions are lost through insurance claims and hospitalisation? Aren't insurance costs high enough?

Stupid government should be doing something...

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

They drive me made and some of the bangs sound like a bomb going off. There is a big hotel just up the road and nearly every Saturday and Wedding or party they seem to have fireworks what ever time of the year it is. Luckily Amber is not frightened by them, when she was a puppy we told her to send them off, and now she thinks it's a game and all the toys come out, she is the same with thunder, but our friends dog turns into a shaking jelly the poor thing.
