Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I wouldn't care if they were banned at all, for some reason I've always had a phobia of fireworks, hate the things with a passion, even now. The noise just scares me.

However I know they do provide a lot of enjoyment to others, so if they were completely restrcited, then I suppose that would be better.

However I doubt it will ever happen

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I hate them too! Having to try to calm the animals down at home, and even worse be worried about my horse who is at livery where I can't be after dark!

I do know last year another horse here actually ran itself to death from the fear of fireworks.

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I think fireworks should be restricted to organised events only.

They have already started here Duke is okay with them not sure what the cats will make of them.

I do think that they should only be sold to over 18's under license and one week before the 5 November.

I don't understand why you need a music license (assuming because of noise) but you don't need a license for noisy fireworks

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I personally don't like them, but don't agree with banning things because some people don't like them.

I think they are dangerous in the wrong hands, and should just be used at special organised events, as far away as possible from peeps houses.

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

I love fire works - although I think they should only be used at organised events. I was lucky in that I got my dogs from puppy's and have been able to play tapes of fire works and make loud noises so hopefully they won't be frightened. It worked with Zipper who didn't bat an eyelid last year - fingers crossed for Lilly as she hasn't heard the real things yet.

If any one is unsure of the law re fireworks here are the details

Fireworks

How the new Laws effect You

There have been important changes to the laws relating to fireworks:

* It is now an offence for anyone under 18 to possess fireworks in a public place.
* It is now an offence to use fireworks between 11.00pm and 7.00am.

There are, however, extensions for the following celebrations:

* 5th November - to 12.00 midnight
* Diwali - to 1.00am
* New Year - to 1.00am on 1st January
* Chinese New Year - to 1.00am on the following day

This curfew applies to all places, including gardens and private land.
These requirements arise from the Firework Regulations 2004 and are enforced by the Police.

There is a penalty of up to £5000 or 6 months in prison. On the spot fines can also be issued for breach of the regulations.

It remains an offence for anyone under 18 to purchase fireworks.

We encourage you to use fireworks safely and with consideration to others in accordance with the law so that the festivities can be enjoyed by everyone. We recommend, in the interests of health and safety that you consider attending an organised public event.

Re: Should Fireworks Be Banned?

organized events only.
you can receive a fine for sounding your car horn after a certain time at night,
but presumably loud explosions at all hours are ok.
if the police wanted to enforce the disturbances,a little tip would be,the garden where the rocket has just been launched from,is most likely the place where they have just been set off.

It is against the law to set off fireworks after 11pm except on a few dates during the year such as Nov 5th, new year etc and the police can prosecute as per the 2004 changes to the law -
"This curfew applies to all places, including gardens and private land.
These requirements arise from the Firework Regulations 2004 and are enforced by the Police.

There is a penalty of up to £5000 or 6 months in prison. On the spot fines can also be issued for breach of the regulations."

It's just a shame these new rules don't seem to be enforced.
