Re: FLEAS...are they the same??
Here you go, found this
![]() Cat and dog fleas are very similar in appearance and both species can live on both cats and dogs. Humans are mainly attacked by cat fleas. A cat or dog may have a light infestation of fleas without the human inhabitants knowing it, but if the pets are carrying large numbers of fleas, then there is naturally a greater likelihood of humans being bitten. A heavy infestation may occur if the cat or dog is removed from the house, for then the insect has no alternative but to feed off us. In such cases one may comfort oneself with the fact that the cat and dog fleas cannot breed without their principle hosts, and so eventually the infestation will die out on its own. On the other hand, they can live for months on a diet of human blood, so it needs an unusual amount of patience to wait until the fleas die of old age. What is the difference between Dog fleas and Cat Fleas? Although one is called a dog flea and one is called a cat flea you won't be able to tell the difference without the aid of a microscope. The most common flea found on dogs and cats is the cat flea. It is a misconception that dogs only have dog fleas and cats only have cat fleas. It has been reported that 95% of fleas found on dogs and cats are cat fleas Dog fleas are rarely found in the United States. |

Re: FLEAS...are they the same??
I never knew there were different types of fleas, so wildlife like foxes, hedgehogs, badgers, rats, mice etc do they carry cat flea or dog flea or are there several species of fleas.
Oh you've started something now was it cat fleas carried by rats that caused the bubonic plague. I'm off googling now. Sue |
