Pruning

How about putting some prunning settings in place? There's a lot of subjects that get raised over and over again and there's probably lots of threads with the same information/discussions on. Do you think on certain forums, probably not all it would help if threads were deleted after they were inactive for a week or month? Not sure whether this would be beneficial or not but thought it was worth considering!

good idea...i'd say after a month, just in case some people miss out when they go on holidays.

i wouldn't say deleted because some of the information in some of the threads may be extreamly useful to other members after say a month or two.

Hi,

I think id prefer to keep old threads. There may be very useful information in them and visitors may find this information when searching via google or other search engines. This is also the reason I want to keep the forum open without having to be a member to view the various posts and threads. Most new members stumble across this forum for by searching for advice in the search engines, and if I made the forum private the pages wouldnt be indexed in the search engines. Basically on any website, the more pages you have indexed in the search engines, the more chance you website has of being found by people surfing the web.

Also, the more threads you have, the more active the site looks! Guests would not want to join a site that looks like it has a new thread every week.

In saying that, Mark: You may want to post a notice for any new members that don't know about what happened the other night. A help section with 3 threads doesn't look too good!

I know what you mean about the help section, we used to have loads of sticky threads in there with useful information, its a shame they have been deleted. Problem is I havent got time at the moment to go and create some useful threads. If anyone would like to help us by creating a few threads with useful info, i.e. how to attach photos to posts; uploading a signature; and any other common problems, I will make them stickies to help our newer members.
