Personally I think the way the forum has run since I joined has been okay, I've certainly enjoyed my time on here.

Obviously mistakes happen and now it has happened Mark is trying to eliminate such problems happening in the future.

No doubt new moderators will be appointed. Perhaps there should be a moderator status so to speak ie Junior Moderator, Moderator, Senior Moderator etc whereby access to the database is limited depending on their status.

I am sure groups (admin1, admin2 etc) can be set up on the database allowing various limitations of access to the database.

There is still a potential risk and I would suggest Mark has the final say on banning members and/or delete whole threads.

We all need to put this behind us and start building up our lost posts.

Sue
I do not mean they cannot have opinions. Some were letting some members continue with nasty personal comments etc....IMO I noticed this on a few threads

Re: PetForums Update

I still think it would be a good idea for Mods to be anonymous so any problems that arise can be reflected away from their normal membership

That would be agood idea, as I know from experience that mods do get a hard time sometimes from users which can cause problems. People often dont like being told what to do, and when someone becomes a mod they can easily loose friends on the forum.

Fortunately I wasn't on the forum last night, I think I know where you are coming from. Incidents like that should be down to the common sense of the moderator to stop it and not to get involved. If some moderators can't at that point become impartial then they are clearly not the right people for the job.

I can't really comment about something I know nothing about, I was referring to moving the forum forward and the best way to deal with incidents in future and who should be responsible to deal with it.

I disagree. Mods are also there to help. If someone needs some help, a thread closing, a post removing and so on, they can PM a mod and ask them to do it for them. If they were annonomous, then no-one would know who to talk to or ask.

They would have one log in name for mod and one log in name for being a normal forum member....thus annon
So you could still pm a mod....you just wouldnt know who it was.....

Of course everyone would know that they were a Mod - they would be anonymous but with Mod status, which would be seen in their profile

I'm assuming whoever is a Mod would have a different username to the one they already have, which would enable them to continue using the forums as a Member - but enable them to log in under a different 'Handle' to moderate and sort problems where needed.

I personally think it's a good idea too.

Mods should have 2 accounts... their mod account and a "normal" account. If they choose to, they can keep their mod account anonymous and not let on to people that it's their account. But obviously we will need to know the usernames of mod/admin accounts so we know who to contact when we need help.

I was a mod on another site before. When I was just a "normal" (I hate that word) user I made alot of friends, but as soon as I was made a mod... I started to get talked about and people got the right hump and started causing trouble. So sometimes people can give mods a hard time (I did say sometimes ).

O_o, I never thought of that! Sounds like a great idea! So you mean like... a joint account for any mods to access.

If you had that, you should also have a member for Super-Mods and Admins too.

But great idea nonetheless.

But Mark, if you're gonna be looking for mods, I'd use this. It's been used on hundreds of other forums, and it's always worked. (At least from what I've seen it has!):

Makes a thread. Writes a template for members to fill in and post. Eg;

Why you want to be a mod:
Past mod experience:

etc.

It would make it a ton easier.
