puppies socalisation
Hi,
I’m hoping to get some advice from those who know about settling in puppies!
I’m getting a puppy shortly. She will be ready to leave her mum on the 15th December. And I’m keen to pick her up as soon as possible, so that I can give her intensive attention for at least two weeks before heading back to work in January. My partner works from home, so he will be there anyway after this – but I’d like us both to focus a lot of time on her for as long as possible 24/7. I’m also keen to do as much socialisation work as possible in the early weeks – as I’ve read how very important this is for her future character.
The problem is that on the 23rd of December I will be going home to spend Christmas at my parent’s house. And so I’m worried about the distribution this might cause to her. Also, my parents have a dog. Now they have had her for about 8 years – I know she is fully vaccinated and always has been. Apparently Vet opinion is divided on the dangers of introducing puppies to vaccinated dogs.
So the plus’s are early socialisation and intensive training for another week. Plus being around another dog, to teach her how to be a dog! (And my parent’s dog is lovely and great with other dogs)
The negatives are potential distribution and confusion in her early life with us, and whether it is dangerous for her to be with a vaccinated dog.
Does anyone have any advice?
