First time posts

Perhaps its just me, being cynical
I have noticed over the last few weeks that some peoples very first posts are about really urgent distressing subjects. The dog is very ill, the cat has died, the rabbit has been eaten by a fox etc etc. Most of the stories seem too far fetched to be true, and I wonder if you have never been on a forum before would you really have the time to surf the internet to find one and join to put an urgent post on?? They never seem to be on here again? Why would you bother????

Re: First time posts

Trolls , banned members coming back to rouse trouble
Maybe sometimes first posts that are distressing are real , you just have to take each one at face value , or gut instinct if the scenario does seem pretty 'out there'

Re: First time posts

A lot of these are people just trying to get a link to their website in, but those often appear with the links missing. Moderators are clamping down on that. We had a spate of them copying and pasting sentences from previous posts on the thread just to get their link in.

Some of them a trolls with an unlikely scenario, like a small cat killing a giant cat! They must lurk and find out what winds people up more and post about it.

But there are some genuine ones, like the poor girl the other day who was asking about her CKC, all alone with a sick dog and mother saying the dog was depressed.

Unfortunately, the poor dog died after everyone persuaded them to take her to the vet. Sometimes they really do need advice so you have be discriminating.

I like to give the benefit of the doubt if they are not too far fetched.

Well, don't feel like that. Newbies are always welcome as long as they are genuine, but very often they just come along with an idiotic made-up problem just to get everyone going.

Like the bloke today who reckons he has a stallion in a field with mares and he keeps mounting them! Well, yeah! But newcomers are always welcome and there is some great advice to be had from experienced people, so don't be put off.

Re: First time posts

Hi Unicorn,
Sorry, didnt mean to make you or any genuine members feel bad at all! I havent been here long. If you read some of the first posts of some people they are quite far fetched and extreme, just meant to cause upset and get people disagreeing with each other. Once the thread is closed they never post again. Most genuine members join and introduce themselves first.
