Question puppy howling when left alone

Hi, I'm new to this, but I wondered if someone could tell me how to stop my 6mth old Rottie howling when we leave the house, She is put in her cage with all her toys and some treats, but I have been informed by my next door neighbour that she howls all the time we are out. Dont want to upset my lovely neighbour (and she really is lovely). I'm desperate now, we dont leave her for too long and we leave a radio on as well. I have had a rottie before and never had trouble like this. we got this one from someone else when she was 5 months old, so dont know if they left her howling or not. But we have had her 6 weeks now and she seems to have issue with being left alone, even in doors she has to be every where you are.

Re: puppy howling when left alone

Do you fill a kong for him as that takes time to get through and keeps him busy while you slip out of the house unnoticed without speaking to him...just leave as if you were hanging the washing out...pop in and out a few times to let him see you are around then go.
A radio is good to leave on aswell

Re: puppy howling when left alone

Howling is just their way of getting you back home or getting in touch with 'the pack'.

Some breeds may be more susceptible to this, but it is often a puppy thing that dogs grow out of.

While the toy stuffed with treats may work, can I ask if you take your dog for a really long off lead walk in the morning before you go out? If you dont, that my solve 90% of your problems. A dog needs to socialize and burn its energy off and a big breed like yours really needs to be exhausted so that it becomes calm and not stressed when you leave. This thing can turn into self harm if you are not careful, so please if you dont give it massive exercise, consider this an option.

Dillon was the same, so in the end we left him in the kitchen and shut all the other doors and he settled no trouble at all, I just think he didn't like been shut up in a small place.
